What can you tell me about it? Is it easy to learn? I have to use it for a new job. Thanks.
I recently found my new development role through SimplyHired
http://sharepoint.jobamatic.com/ They have a good list. There are plenty of other job boards advertising roles also
I'm so confused! I'm reading about all of these things like Microsoft exchange server, Microsoft sharepoint, buying licenses, using 1and1.com, etc., and I have no idea how to use my Blackberry while I am out of the home office so that when I update a contact or my calendar, it syncs with my Outlook at home so I have one central database that my assistant can access as well. Please help! Can anyone explain what I need to do to make this work without spending $1,000 on a license? Thanks!
I am web designer for a large financial corporation. I am looking for some ideas for a name for our web designers' MS Sharepoint community site we have established. This site is basically a centralized place to where our group of designers can discuss issues relating to design, view web patterns/standards, access designer resources, view design community calendar events, etc. I have come up with a few names, but was wondering if any of you might have some ideas to share.
I just got Office 2007 Ultimate, thrilled that it would allow for collaboration. But I cannot figure out the best way to create shared folders for tasks, notes, calendars, etc. I read about SharePoint, but that looks like it requires additional, expensive server software. Then I set up MS Groove which seems great, but I've found no clear way to integrate it with Outlook. Do I have to switch over to Groove's clunky interface in order to access such shared items? Or is there some way to create folders in Outlook which are set up to be shared via Groove? Or is there some other way to collaborate in Outlook 2007 which I'm just missing? Help!
what the question is, is that I need to find a way to Synchronize my Office Outlook 2003 calendar and contact lists with my teams Sharepoint site.
I know this is possible but not sure exactly how to go about it without using third party application like corsaworks etc.HELP
We use a hosted Exchange service with SharePoint. I've created a shared calendar, linked it to outlook, where it shows up, however, it is strictly read only. Seems kind of pointless.
How do I summarized the weeks events with the Sharepoint Calendar Web part?
In other words, I want to use the calendar as usual.but,
I also want to have a view where every Thursday of the Month
I would have a list (view) of events coming up in the next 7 days.
Example:
Thursday April 3 2008
---------------------------------
All events from 4/3/2008 to 4/10/2008
Thursday April 10 2008
---------------------------------
All events from 4/10/2008 to 4/17/2008
Thursday April 17 2008
---------------------------------
All events from 4/17/2008 to 4/24/2008
Thursday April 24 2008
---------------------------------
All events from 4/24/2008 to 5/1/2008
Thursday May 1 2008
---------------------------------
All events from 5/1/2008 to 5/8/2008
Thanks!
At my company we are getting access to a Sharepoint server, and I was wondering if using the Sharepoint Calendar, if its possible to say, create/restrict 10 groups of 100 people total, so those in the same group could not take vacation days overlapping one another?
My only guess is if I were to create a custom database for this, using Sharepoint Designer, is that correct? Hmm.
I just want to know if its possible before I start putting more research into this. If you can confirm this by stating a fact or providing a link, that will suffice for best answer!
Thanks ;)
I Have 2 public calendar.. i want to merge this two calendar and show it in my sharepoint calendar.. and also the modifications done in my sharepoint calendar should be reflected to its corresponding public calendar..
I have the entire 2007 package at work but am currently editing both my outlook and sharepoint calendar with the same appointments.
Is there a way to edit one and have it automatically update the other without setting up an email for my calendar and email the appointmentds in?
Also how can I make my sharepoint Calendar appear on my public view for everyone to see?
My department would like to sync all individual Outlook calendars into our department Sharepoint calendar so that we can see vacation days, etc. Is this possible? I already know how to view the centralized calendar in my Outlook.
I'm using Sharepoint Designer '07. I made a website, but I want to know how to create user accounts. Only basic accounts, like this account goes to this page and this one to this other page.
Hello Yahoo
I am in need of some advice on how to change jobs/careers out of web site design/development. I have had various temp contract jobs over the past 3 yrs and I am tired of the job security.
It seems to me that in 2007-08, with all this cheesy myspace, youtube, and user generated content, web design is a very broad term, and amateur designers with no background are using the web for crap, and on the other side their is too many languages to learn, and each back-end web project is various(php or asp.net, or joomla, or vb or c# with ruby or j2ee with sharepoint);
And alot of jobs now are very basic, (like sending out a email newsletter ) 20hrs/part time, or designer/SEO, or back end asp.net programming on some stupid intranet that gets updated every 6 months, its not even worth being a full-time employee in my opinion.
All in all, I want to know, is this type of work worth a FULL_TIME DAY job, or is it worth part-time, contract, remote projects from home?
I am sick & tired of looking for web development day jobs (and every single one has a different technical skillset; huge headache, some have a small scope (like xhtml/css markup and posting pdfs),& some have a unrealistic scope, like 5 yrs AJAX/ and GIS mapping with SQL server and high end graphics)
And moreover, how can you transfer into another line of work, when all your skills are technical/web-related? I have had a nightmare time trying to go into other fields (like sales, or finance or even customer service??
I am going insane with this, am I the only one???
Need serious professional advice. Any thoughts
was wonder can you run Microsoft Office 2003 in Windows Vista or do you have to upgrade to Office 2007?? The main reason I ask is I use FrontPage where I built and maintain a website and Windows decided to stop building it and replaced it with SharePoint Designer and Expression Web. I'm not currently hooked up with SharePoint (have no desire to since I maintain my own website myself) so can't use SharePoint Designer and Expression Web is too basic for the likes of me... I have used Macromedia/Adobe Dreamweaver before but find FrontPage to be a better fit for my needs. Anyways has anyone seen the new Office 2007, their new design looks a bit stupid and more complexed especially with a ribbon replacing taskbars.
We have manuals for each of our departments (it's a large construction company) for how we do business. Estimating, Project Management, General Administration, IT, etc. etc. We are exploring Wiki's, Sharepoint, etc. And just need an efficient and effective way to:
1) Manage Change (i.e. making it super easy to update these documents);
2) ensuring QA/QC around the Changes;
3) Making it easy to search and find relevant information;
4) Making it easy to access, read (i.e. a global tree or index) and potentially print (although this is diminishing) the documents);
Right now all the documents are in separate word or PDF files in a basic sharepoint implementation.
Any assistance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
If you have time, can you please also read below...
If you know, can you please tell additional info like pros and cons? =)
Because aside from basic email, calendar, address book features etc, we NEED to be able to do things such as:
a. create/program electronic forms
b. route documents among different people (for approval etc)
c. repository of documents (possibly limiting access to certain people) or company-wide reports
d. ...etc etc
These are possible in Lotus Notes, right? We're also looking for other alternatives. How about Microsoft Outlook? Can we do the things I listed above? Like create simple programs for e-forms and routing? Haven't actually tried Office 2007 but I heard it already has very good collaboration tools (Grove? SharePoint? Can these programs do the above?). How about any good open source solutions?
Your help would be greatly appreciated! =) Thank very much!!
Hi,
I'm working with few people and we are looking for good website to manage our project. Basic things, like sharepoint offers.

Thank you.
Our extranet is currently hosted by a 3rd Party and would we would like to move it in house. We are looking at options that can leverage our Visual Basic.Net Programmer base. Thanks!
how do i update our company intranet using microsoft sharepoint? I need to update our word documents in the master document (guide), post them into the shared library documents, then upload them. The links are not reading each other; one has a dot (.) in one and none in the other. for some reason my people in the company have no idea and find it really difficult to explain how this works. Who is a whiz on updating intranets?
The basic option of Export to Excel would just export the current view. But how to export the whole set of files/folders and subfolders LIST on to an excel?
I am a new developer of Sharepoint Product, and still don't know where is to learn the Sharepoint web part and it's architecture. All other website that I search only show a basic way. I need to learn from A to Z about sharepoint, especially to create webpart using C# programming language. Tq
why we need MOSS 2007 and how can we deal with content management in it?
Does sharepoint have a forum template that will also allow for points to be awarded for discussion threads?
Does anyone have any links or download sites that have a free Sharepoint Safety Template or Health, Safety and Environment Template? I've done search after search and can't find anything. I'm not talking about the safety of the software or the program, I'm talking about Workplace Safety, as in OSHA-related Safety.
In what directory are Sharepoint Site Templates kept?
I recently downloaded Microsoft Office Sharepoint Designer 2007. But when I opened it and clicked on New, there was no template under any category. I don't know where to get them from as I want to create my personal website. Microsoft online is providing with commercial templates only. Usually personal templates are installed with the software. Please help me out with this issue...
We’re using SharePoint as a document management solution on our corporate portal. I have tried understating what’s going on inside in terms of usage reporting… and I have found out that the SharePoint server is simply not collecting the required usage data… even if I use some log analyzers… the data is simply not there for me to crunch… can a sharepoint server be configured to collect more usage data? Anyone knows about this issue?
I am creating a SharePoint project and need to display data (reports) from a ClearQuest schema/database as well as a RequisitePro project. Is there any way to make a external call from SharePoint to the Rational tools.
Has anyone used anything else like Web Trends to get better insite on site usage? Is there a web part one can purchase to enhance SharePoint's reporting capabilities?
I have several sharepoint pages setup, each one contains an issues page where issues are listed and assigned to a user.
I want to run a report where ALL issues across ALL pages that are assigned to me show. Is this possible?
I have a Sharepoint site on which i want to put this infopath form but every client machine will not have infopath . i am having infopath 2003 . I dont want to purchase infopath 2007 . What other option is available . I dont want to code the form in asp .net
I have upgraded my sharepoint services 3.0 to the full blown office sharepoint server 2007 with the single goal of using browser-based InfoPath forms.
The upgrade seemed to go fine and sharepoint is running just fine but the forms services are no where to be found.
From what I have readI should have some config options for forms services under Central Administration > Application Management but, there is nothing.
I'm thinking that the forms server feature never got installed? I'm not sure how that is possible but I am missing something for sure.
Please help!
Has anybody implemented sharepoint portal at the work place and got any suggestions on best practices or does and don'ts
I am trying to implement Sharepoint in our office. I have it installed, now I just need to set up the site. We currently have an intranet, and I was wondering if there was some way for me to copy and paste what we have on the intranet to somewhere in Sharepoint to transfer it over? THANKS!!!
And which online help technologies or tools that is best to implement it? I intend to run it on Microsoft Sharepoint Server 2007 using CHM Decoder help authoring tools.
Can anyone point me to any online resources on best practices for deploying MOSS 2007 in a Workgroup environment?
You'll either need to stand up a SharePoint instance on one of your own servers or use a 3rd party to host your site. I currently use a 3rd party hosting company http://www.frontpages-web-hosting.net/. I have easily created an externally facing SharePoint site using this technology for an Infertility Doctors and Clinics site located at http://www.FindInfertilityDocs.com . Contact me from that webpage if you have any additional questions.
I was able to get flash to work in Sharepoint 2003. I however am having trouble deploying in Sharepoint 2007. Any tips would be great.
I have made this web custom control. this control have LinkButton which have an event. the custom control works fine in .aspx page. But, when i use it in a web part, the event never rise even if i clicked on the LinkButton. Please, if you worked before in .net and sharepoint development and faced a similar problem, i'll really appreciate your help.

I am new to InfoPath and Sharepoint, but will need to support both products from a features aspect. I don't want to program customizations as I want use these products out of the box.
We have a server here and I was wondering how I could share my address book with someone else in the office. That way we could both have access to a updated address book. We do not have Microsoft Sharepoint or Microsoft Exchange server and I doubt we will be getting those services...SO IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY?

I'm writing web parts for sharepoint services 3.0 (NOT 2.0 and NOT office 2007 sharepoint server either). Our company is writing data driven webparts to be used in our sharepoint site, however... any web part i've tried to install isn't working (they work fine in asp.net 2.0 so i am suspecing my dwp and manifest files aren't correctly working. I have a DLL and a .config file...
I keep getting the error that "webpart does not inherit from Microsoft.Sharepoint.Controls.Webpart and could not be loaded" but according to the WSS 3.0 documentation asp.net 2.0 webparts CAN and SHOULD be complely compatible with wss3.0.
You will need some server-side coding to do that. Someone with Developer rights to your SP environment and can develop in ASP .NET can help you, or you can use one of the free online services.

I'm getting ready to install WSS 3.0 but can't for the life of me figure out how many CALs I need for SQL 2005? Can I just get 1 since this is used only internally? What if I want to allow a set number of external users to access it; do I need more CALs then? If anyone could answer this or provide a link that would be helpful:)
